Nantwich Town can confirm that Sean Cooke and Caspar Hughes have left the club to join Stafford Rangers.
Since returning to the club in March, Sean scored 8 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions, and surpassed the landmark of 350 appearances in total. He also moved into 3rd place in the club’s all time top goalscorers list. His overall totals stand at 122 goals in 364 games. His last goals came, in true Sean style, in a hat trick away at City of Liverpool last month, his third treble for the Dabbers.
Caspar leaves on a total of 249 Dabbers appearances and 10 goals. After he came back to the club in 2017, he scored some memorable goals and became only the third ever player to captain the Dabbers in the FA Cup First Round Proper. The last couple of years have seen him blighted by injuries but he’s remained a valued presence both on and off the pitch.
Manager Paul Carden said:
“Since Sean came back he’s been different class for us. Last season he really got the lads going and scored some important goals. This season he’s missed a fair bit through injuries but he’s still played a big part, none more so than a couple of weeks ago against City of Liverpool scoring a big hat-trick and doing the things we know he can do. He goes with our best wishes because he’s such a good lad and a good player.”
“When I came into the club Caspar was the first person I called. I’d tried to sign both him and Sean at Warrington but they were so committed to the club that they were never going to leave at that time. I stated how important Caspar was to me and how much I rated him but unfortunately he just couldn’t get past the injuries. His last game for us was Shifnal away but what a game he had that night. I’ve been gutted not to see more of him so again a good player who’s done really well for Nantwich over the years,”
We all wish Sean and Caspar the very best for the future.
