NTFC Academy

Nantwich Town are pleased to announce the return of the BTEC Academy for 2025, in association with Brine Leas Academy.

This unique football coaching opportunity will be overseen by former Nantwich and Crewe Alex player Rod McDonald and former Scotland international Danny Fox.

The Academy combines this high level coaching with a Level 3 BTEC in Sport, equivalent to 3 A Levels, so this means you can:

  • Study for specialist qualifications in sports-based subjects while living, training and playing like a professional
  • Prepare yourself for a career in the sports industry and related fields
  • Earn the UCAS points required to access a huge variety of Higher Education pathways

This is open free to boys and girls aged 16-18.

Rod McDonald said:

“I got involved in the BTEC course because I think it’s a great opportunity to help 16–18-year-olds in the community who are passionate about football, with aspirations of building towards professional football or gaining qualifications to open more doors to go on to university or work. Partnering with Nantwich Town will give the kids top facilities to train like a professional footballer and with Brine Leas providing the education they will have a top education.”

Lyndon Wain, former Football Development Officer at Nantwich Town, said:

“The club is delighted to announce its 2025 Academy BTEC project is now open for current Year 11 students. We are certain our partners Brine Leas will provide an unrivalled education element which will lead to a BTEC qualification equivalent to 3 A levels, opening the door to University education. In Rod McDonald the current EFL professional footballer we have the perfect person to lead the footballing element of the programme. Our facilities are unrivalled as the students get to feel like professionals too on our state-of-the-art Stadium pitch. We really can’t wait to get started.”

Ben Elliot, Subject Lead of PE at Brine Leas, said:

“Brine Leas are incredibly excited to be working in partnership with Nantwich Town FC to deliver the Football Academy programme. The opportunity for students to experience life as semi-professional footballers at the club whilst completing a BTEC Level 3 Sport course at the school is fantastic, we are proud to be bringing this to the local community. It will form an essential link to develop football and education for boys and girls in Nantwich and the surrounding areas.”

On joining, Danny Fox said:

“I was introduced to this course by Rod McDonald who’s a good friend of mine. I think it’s going to bring a lot of positivity to the whole of Nantwich, it’s only going to get bigger and I’m really looking forward to be a part of it.”
