Nantwich Town are proud to be hosting two music acts in the upcoming Nantwich Words and Music Festival.
First up and opening the Festival are “The Sunbirds”, on Monday October 9th, led by Dave Hemingway, founder member of both The Housemartins and The Beautiful South, who has been a special force on the UK music scene since the mid 80s.
As the man who sang that he loved you “from the bottom of his pencil case” and the familiar voice on other classics including “A Little Time”, Dave has been on our radios and in our lives for decades… and his newest adventure began in 2019 with the formation of Sunbirds.
Along with Phil Barton (guitar) Laura Wilcockson (vocals & violin), Marc Parnell (drums) and Chris Offen (bass) Dave peddles the intelligent pop sound for which he’s famous, now tinged with a whiff of Americana and a rockier edge.
Sunbirds launch Words And Music 2023 with their Nantwich debut Nantwich Town Football Club on festival Monday. Currently recording their second album, this is a band very much on the rise. Catch them in this small intimate venue while you can… and don’t miss out, this band truly soars.

Thursday October 12th sees Martin Stephenson & The Daintees take to the stage at The Swansway Stadium.
Straight out of Sunderland in the late 80s, Martin Stephenson and his rockabilly/indie folk flavoured Daintees emerged into a UK music scene ruled by Stock Aitken and Waterman, at the exact time when there was nothing less fashionable to tote than an acoustic guitar.
That they cut through and made an indelible impression is testimony to Martin’s inimitable melodic, humane songwriting, his passion and spontaneity as a live performer, and the band’s gloriously ramshackle interplay.
They gatecrashed the albums chart with “Boat To Bolivia” and “Gladsome, Humour And Blue” and despite disbanding in the 90s have retained a special place in the hearts of a passionate fan base.
They have now reformed, sounding better than ever and mixing classic old material with the new.
A night to make you dance, laugh and cry in equal measures.
