Goals from both sides wasn’t enough to separate Nantwich Town and Bury in the Dabbers’ second pre-season game at the Weaver Stadium. Bury opened the scoring through Jordan Archer who put the visitors ahead, converting a neat corner routine, before Joe Mwasile equalised for the hosts shortly after.

The early stages of the game saw Bury the more dominant side in terms of possession, however the Shakers showed little attacking threat. Will Saxon’s header from James Lawrie’s corner was the first chance of the game, however the attacking midfielders couldn’t quite direct the ball towards the goal.

Nantwich skipper Caspar Hughes then came close to lobbing through an inch-perfect ball to Joe Malkin, who couldn’t quite stretch his leg out far enough to get a touch in the ball.

Bury later came close down the left side, as their pacey winger found space to run into on the edge of the box, but his shot hit the side netting.

As the half ran on, Jamie Reed’s pressure forced the Bury defence to make mistake and give the ball away. This left the forward with the ball on the edge of the six yard box but at a tight angle, however, Reed was unable to capitalise on the mistake, and blazed the ball over the cross bar.

With the half coming to an end, Hughes again lobbed a ball through to Malkin, who’s first touch took the ball over the Bury defender. Malkin created enough space for a shot, however, his lob attempt ended up over the bar.

Bury’s goal game early in the second half, after a corner was floated into the back post, headed down into the six yard box, and eventually poked in by Jordan Archer under Greg Hall.

After a quiet spell for both sides, Will Saxon picked up the ball on the right wing, his first touch leaving Bury’s left back behind him. Saxon then played a ball through to Joe Mwasile, who calmly slotted the ball into the keepers near side.

Only minutes after the Dabbers’ goal, Greg Hall was forced into making a fantastic low diving save, knocking the Bury midfielders powerful shot around the post and out for a corner.

The Dabbers later had a chance to take the lead, seconds after Jordan Hall had come on, his interception almost left him with an open goal. Eventually managing to get control of the ball, Hall looked to find Lawrie on the penalty spot who would have had an open goal. But the Bury goalkeeper managed to recover well and intercept Hall’s pass.

After numerous chances for both sides and a penalty shout for Nantwich, the game eventually finished 1-1. The Dabbers will now look forward to heading to Winsford United away this forthcoming Tuesday evening.
