After last Saturday’s setback against Ashton, the Dabbers look to get back to winning ways at the Optimum Pay Stadium as we take on Morpeth Town. Here’s what we can expect from Saturday’s game (3pm kick-off).
One does not simply walk into Morpeth
Morpeth were unbeaten in 7 games in all competitions before a 2-0 home loss to South Shields in their last league game, and it took higher league York City two attempts to knock them out of the FA Cup, winning a replay on Tuesday night. So despite them sitting second bottom of the Northern Premier Premier Division, there have been signs of form, and as the Dabbers discovered against Ashton, league positions don’t always indicate how a team is doing.
Last Time Out
We haven’t played Morpeth since December 2019, and that was a 1-0 defeat away from home. A solitary goal from Ben Harmison was the difference that day, highlights from that one are available below courtesy of Morpeth’s YouTube channel. But the last home game against Morpeth was a much more memorable occasion, a famous late winner for 1-0 from Joe Mwasile in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round (that had this writer’s laptop on the floor) as part of our wonderful cup run that season.
Players to Watch
Andrew Johnson is the visitor’s top scorer this season with an impressive 7 goals and 2 assists to his name, and look out for Ryan Donaldson in midfield, a creative presence who joined the club last summer off the back of helping Hartlepool back into the Football League.
