The Dabbers are in midweek action for what could end up being the last time this season, barring postponements, against Hanley Town in a game rearranged after our FA Trophy run.
Han-bags and Gladrags
Hanley won their first game in 7 last weekend, with a 3-1 win over Hednesford that was played on Friday night. If you take it further back, it was only their 3rd win in the last 12 games. Their other games in 2024 have seen draws with Newcastle Town and Trafford and a defeat to Avro.
Their 23 goals scored in 24 games is the second fewest in the league, but their 29 conceded is the fifth lowest. The last time Nantwich faced a team with low numbers in both those columns was Widnes, who beat the Dabbers in December.
With just a point and place between the two sides (14th and 15th), and this being among the last games in hand that’ll be available, it’s approaching must win territory for both to avoid the risk of the season petering out.
Last Time Out
The reverse game was among the lowest point in Nantwich’s season, a 1-0 defeat in September courtesy of Reece Jones’s first half penalty and few Dabbers chances to speak of. A Hanley player could be heard after the game describing it as ‘men against boys’. Tuesday night will prove if that gap still remains. Highlights below.
Players to Watch
That penalty is still Jones’s only goal of the season in 25 appearances. The big majority of the goalscoring has come from Tyrone Ofori and Kieran Brown, who are locked on 10 goals each in the battle for their golden boot. Brown got 2 in the Hednesford win on Friday, while Ofori hasn’t played for them since New Year’s Day.
The other goalscorer in that Hednesford win was a certain Joe Mwasile. He is one of 7 former Dabbers in Hanley’s squad, along with Joel Stair, Luke Walsh, Kyle Blake, Tim Sanders, Alex Morris and Ben Chapman.
