The Dabbers are on the road again this Saturday (3pm kick-off), this time to Derbyshire and an always tough trip to Matlock Town.
Matlock-ed out of Heaven
Matlock have recovered well from a troubled start that saw manager Paul Phillips leave at the start of September. Craig Elliot’s arrival after doing a good job at Boston in National League North felt like a coup at the time and the results so far have proved that, 3 wins out of 5 starting to build some momentum for the Gladiators. Warrington Rylands, Lancaster and Ashton have all been defeated in recent weeks, leaving Matlock 2nd in the league on 20 points, however they have played more games than anyone around them.
Their home form has been bulletproof so far, they’ve got 14 points from 6 at the Proctor Cars Stadium and are unbeaten. After visiting Hyde with the 2nd best form at home last game, the Dabbers now go to the best home side in the division.
Last Time Out
Our last meeting was an uneventful 0-0 draw in Derbyshire in April, with both teams not playing for much late in the season there was little to report. So for a more exciting flashback, we’ve dug into the archives for a brilliant 3-0 win for the Dabbers at Matlock in November 2017, where goals by Harry Clayton and 2 from David Forbes sent Nantwich home very happy. Players to Watch
Alex Wiles is a midfielder, but his scoring this season would see him more deserving of the number 9 shirt. He has 6 goals so far, including 2 decisive winning goals. If the Dabbers don’t track his late runs, he’ll look to take advantage. Winger Alex Byrne was recently sent off against Lancaster so may be serving his suspension on Saturday.
