Marine Vs Nantwich Town
Emirates FA Cup Third Qualifying Round
After a short lay off due to a couple of COVID cases in the camp, The Dabbers are finally back in action tonight as we make the trip to The Marine Travel Arena to face Northern Premier League Division One North West side, Marine.
So far in the competition Nantwich have beaten Tividale 4-2 and Barwell, who they beat 1-0 torrent conditions. Joe Mwaslie got the goal for The Dabbers.
Our hosts have played a game extra in the competition as they saw off Barnoldswick Town in the Extra-Preliminary Round. They then had to travel to Frickley who they beat 1-0 thanks to David Raven’s second half goal. In the second qualifying round, Marine took Runcorn Linnets to penalties before beating them 4-3 in the shootout.
The Mariners have had a mixed start to the season, in their first four league games they have won two, and lost two, scoring six goals and conceding only four times. They come into the game on good form after winning their last 2 league games against Widnes and Tadcaster Albion respectively so they will certainly be full of confidence as they go into the game against higher league opposition in the Dabbers. Nantwich have not played since their win in the last round of the FA Cup at home to Barwell. The Dabbers have had a good start to the season as they are yet to lose. They currently occupy 6th place in the league table after 2 wins and a draw. Dave Cooke’s men already find themselves playing catch up on fixtures due to a couple of postponed games because of the coronavirus
The two sides have already met this season, albeit it was in pre-season, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw at the Weaver Stadium. Marine took the lead after just 10 minutes when Joe Malkin went to clear a free kick away from danger, however he spooned his clearance into the roof of his own to net to give the visitors the lead (fingers crossed this doesn’t happen this evening) Marine finished the game with 10 men after Josh Hmami was shown a straight red card after a not so friendly off the ball stamp on Nantwich trialist Josh Green. A late Sean Cooke penalty bought the Dabbers level, However, neither side was able to find a winning goal in what was a good run out for both teams.
With one league separating tonight’s teams, it should still be a cracking game. The hosts are looking to qualify past the Third Round Qualifying for the 2nd time in 8 years, Whereas The Dabbers will be looking to move one step closer to being in the hat for first round proper for the 2nd time in as many seasons. There is also the invaluable prize money at stake for tonight’s victors which will go a long way to supporting the clubs in this current climate.
