Nantwich Town are on the road again on Tuesday night (7.45 kick-off), this time we head to Derbyshire to face an impressive Buxton side who will provide a stern test for Dave Cooke’s side. Let’s take a look at what could happen in this match-up.
Buxton are having quite the season so far. They sit two points off the top of the league in 3rd, but have two games in hand on both South Shields and Matlock. Add to this their brilliant FA Cup run that has seen them most recently win memorably away to York City and book themselves a Second Round clash with League One side Morecambe live on the BBC and it’s been pretty unforgettable for Bucks supporters.
And all this in the midst of the bizarre disagreement over holiday that saw the club dismiss their management team and bring in Steve Cunningham who masterminded that win over York in his first game. He has won two of his three other games since, over Atherton and Hyde, but they did lose against Lancaster at the weekend, which meant the end of their 16 game unbeaten league start.
Last Time Out
It was a real dramatic encounter back in September 2020 in our last meeting, after James Hurst gave Buxton the lead at the Optimum Pay Stadium on 6 minutes, they looked to be holding out for the win, until the 86th minute when Jimmy Lawrie scored a penalty and just 2 minutes later, Joel Stair looped in a header to give a 2-1 win to the Dabbers from the jaws of defeat. Highlights from that one are below:
Players to Watch
Diego De Girolamo made national headlines with his late winner in the FA Cup but fans at this level have known the threat he poses for some time, his 10 goals just in the league have him right near the top of the goalscoring charts once again and he only needs a sniff to find the net.
Tickets for the game at The Silverlands are pay on the gate only, and are priced at £10 adults, £6 concessions and £2 kids with a paying adult.
