The Dabbers finish November with a trip to Greater Manchester to face Avro on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
What Avro Done to Deserve This?
Avro have won their last 2 league games after previously going without a win in the previous 8 games in all competitions. Even more impressive is the teams they’ve beaten to end that run. They won away at then-league leaders Vauxhall 2-1 and followed it up by thrashing Witton 4-0. They haven’t played since that game on 16th November so should be well rested, and currently sit 15th in the NPL West.
In between those league games was a Fenix Trophy game against Finnish side Gilla, which Avro won 6-2. Gilla are only 2 years old and were set up by a group of Finnish YouTubers. Football really is for everyone.
Avro’s home form has far outstripped their away form, winning 4 of their 8 games at the Vestacare Stadium and losing only 2. However, they had gone 5 at home without a win before that big win over Witton. Their 21 goals conceded is the same as the Dabbers (but in 2 fewer games), and only 2 teams have conceded fewer than that. However, their 22 goals scored is the sixth lowest in the league.
Last Time We Met
The Dabbers failed to win either of the fixtures against Avro last season, losing 1-0 away on the opening day of the season then drawing 1-1 at the Swansway 2 days before Christmas. Avro’s early goal was cancelled out by Paddy Kay just before half time. Highlights below.
Players to Watch
Liam Ellis is Avro’s top scorer with 7 goals in 19 games. He scored once in that Finland ‘friendly’ then followed it up with 2 more against Witton last time out. Kyle Hawley scored in the win over Vauxhall then got a hat trick in the game against the Finnish opponents.
