The Emirates FA Cup journey gets going again for another season this Saturday for Nantwich Town as we take on Grantham Town at the Optimum Pay Stadium.

Please stand for the national Grantham

Grantham have four points from their first six league games, a win on opening day over Radcliffe was followed by four consecutive defeats, including a 7-2 thrashing by Lancaster City, that run only ended on Monday after a 1-1 draw with Basford.

In the Cup, Grantham have made it past the 1st Qualifying Round for 3 of the past 4 seasons, the one time they didn’t was when they faced the Dabbers in 2019, with Nantwich coming out on top 3-1.

Just this week, the Gingerbreads have added three new players to their squad who you may see on Saturday, Harvey Grice and Rio Molyneaux on loan from Alfreton Town, and Thierry Latty-Fairweather on loan from Burton Albion, whose name sounds as if he should be mixing with the Granthams of ‘Downton Abbey’ rather than Grantham Town.

Last Time Out

It was goals from Sean Cooke, Ben Harrison and ‘Lord’ Valdemar Schousboe that gave the Dabbers the ticket to the next round in that tie two years ago, highlights of which are available below.

The two sides met just a couple of months later in the league in our most recent meeting, Cooke again and Joe Mwasile with the goals in a 2-0 victory in November 2019, here’s the report from that day.

It’s been 6 years since the Dabbers failed to make it past the 1st Qualifying Round and Dave Cooke’s men will have no intention of letting that run slip when Saturday comes.

Player to Watch

Ali Aydemir scored in the visitors’ win over Radcliffe and provides a constant threat from the Grantham wing with pace and skill, as well as that eye for goal. Forward Nathan Modest is also a danger but he would surely play down his impact and refuse to take any credit for his abilities.
