17-year-old Layla Woollam has signed for Nantwich Town Women after an outstanding campaign with Ashton Town.
A talented and versatile young player, Layla is comfortable operating in both attacking and defensive roles, adding even more quality and flexibility to the squad.
Layla joins the Dabbers from Ashton Town, where she enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, finishing as the team’s top goalscorer. In 10 starts and 10 substitute appearances, Layla registered 12 goals and 9 assists, underlining her ability to influence games in the final third.
Layla has also developed through some excellent youth pathways, representing Manchester United, Cheadle, Stockport, and the Cheshire Girls District Team, establishing herself as a bright young prospect.
Manager Dan Mellor had this to say about signing Layla:
“We are delighted to welcome Layla to Nantwich. She trained with us a little bit last season, so we know her well, and she had other offers to sign higher up the pyramid this summer. To have her commit to us demonstrates that players believe in what we’re building here and the direction we’re heading. She already displays a calmness about her game that is very impressive for a 17-year-old. Technically she is brilliant, can pick a pass, is a great finisher and we’re looking forward to continuing her development with us.”
Supporters have already had a glimpse of Layla for the team, after she featured in the Dabbers’ last two pre-season fixtures in the Leek Charity Shield, helping the side win the tournament. Sunday’s home fixture against Warrington Town will provide the opportunity for her to make her Swansway Stadium debut, with kick-off at 2:00pm.
