Nantwich Town are pleased to announce the short-term signing of goalkeeper Sam Booth from Ashton United.
Booth, 25 years old, is a local lad who came through the academy at Crewe Alex before gaining numerous appearances with Leek Town, Kidsgrove Athletic and recently Trafford FC. This summer he joined Ashton United as cover with his coaching commitments at Crewe Alex preventing him from being able to commit full time.
He joins the Swansway Stadium to help over the next two fixtures where we owe our thank you to Ashton United for allowing the prompt transfer to be available at short notice.
Manager Luke Goddard said:
“Naturally the goalkeeping situation has been a real headache all summer and season so far. I appreciate it’s such a ruthless position and we have tried to give opportunities without judging on every mistake, but we have had a common trend of big moments costing us through errors unfortunately.
We had hoped Cian (O’Shea), following the first two clean sheets of the season, was the solution on loan until Christmas but now due to his injury we are back to square one. Liam (Hall) came back in midweek for another opportunity but we still as staff need to re-look at which direction we go in.
Boothy is known to us and we are grateful Ashton have allowed us to use him in the interim whilst we assess collectively.”
