Nantwich Town are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Eric Merner, as Danny Roberts leaves the club.
22-year-old Eric has made 3 appearances for Leek Town this season, and has also played for Connah’s Quay Nomads, Sandbach United and Eccleshall.
Danny made 13 appearances in all competitions after joining in October following an injury to Scott Moloney. He made an instant and memorable impact, saving two shoot-out penalties on his debut in the FA Trophy win over Stratford Town.
He then repeated the feat against Chester in the following round, 2 more saves seeing off the National League North side. He also started in the famous 3-2 win over York.
Manager Paul Carden said:
“Eric is local to the club, in training he’s really impressed. The situation with Dan is that he’s come in and done really well but he knew the situation with Scott’s injury in that Scott was our first choice keeper before he got injured and his form’s been really good, Dan is an established first choice keeper who wants to go and play as he’s at an age and experience where he should be playing.
Eric is coming in not only to provide cover but also competition to Scott and is a more than capable goalkeeper. The goalkeeping situation at this time has been good when you think the games that Dan’s had for the club, he’s certainly played his part in the cups this season and he’s certainly a good goalkeeper for anybody.”
We’d like to welcome Eric to the Dabbers, and thank Danny for his time at the club and wish him the best for the future.
