There was heartbreak for the Dabbers Under-16s who were beaten 2-1 by Macclesfield in the Cheshire County Cup final on Sunday.

A late winner meant Macc took the trophy, but after the game manager Carl Boffey told us how proud he was of his side and their performance.

”The game itself was one fitting of a Cheshire Cup Final, a close game with some high quality football played by both teams.

After going behind early on Nantwich grew into the game and were unlucky not to go in at halftime on even terms.

With renewed energy after the halftime break Nantwich found the equaliser with a brilliant lobbed goal by Kieran Prestwich to the delight of the brilliant travelling Dabbers fans.

But with penalties looming Macclesfield were awarded a free kick 25 yards out which they scored from by a headed goal with 5 minutes remaining.

Nantwich pushed hard for a second equaliser but Macclesfield ran out 2-1 winners, congratulations to them.

Finally can the team thank everybody who came up to the game for the fantastic support and also the Club and staff for the help on organising such a great day for the players it was a great reflection on the club.”
