Nantwich play host to high-flying Matlock Town on Tuesday night at the Weaver Stadium, in a BetVictor Northern Premier League clash. The Dabbers come into the game in excellent form, with Dave Cooke’s men putting in an excellent performance at the weekend, beating Lancaster City 3-2. Matlock also come into the game in fine form having beaten Whitby Town 3-0 on the road and arrive at the Weaver having not lost a single away game this season.

However, as we all know the Weaver is a place that no team has enjoyed coming to this season, with The Dabbers boasting the joint best home form in the league along with league leaders South Shields, meaning Tuesday evening’s match promises to be eventful.

Our Last Meeting

The Dabbers ran out 1-0 winners the last time these two sides met, with a Joe Malkin goal separating the two sides in last year’s league encounter. Poor weather conditions in Derbyshire made the pitch difficult to play on for the Dabbers away from home, with Malkin having to best chance of the first half with his effort forcing a fingertip save from the keeper after a pinpoint through ball from Sean Cooke.

Matlock had the main share of possession in the first half but couldn’t find a way through the Nantwich defence, with the match being all square going into the break. The Dabbers piled on the pressure in the second half though and it finally paid off, with Sean Cooke releasing Joe Mwasile down the wing, who was tripped inside the 6 yard box after a mazy run, with Malkin firing the loose ball into the back of the net.

In the Dugout

Managing this Matlock outfit is Steve Kittrick, a man with considerable experience in the Northern Premier League and other tiers of non-league football. Kittrick started his managerial career at Ossett Town in the Northern Counties East League before moving to Guiseley where he won the Northern Premier League in the 2009/10 campaign. After a brief spell at AFC Telford United he was appointed as boss at Scarborough Athletic in 2016, leading them to promotion to the Northern Premier league in 2017/18, before leaving in March of this year. Kitterick then joined Matlock in May and has enjoyed a great start to his first full season at the helm, with his side currently sitting in 3rd.

Key Player

The key man The Dabbers will be looking out for is winger Marcus Marshall, whose six league goals so far this campaign have made him the 2nd top goal scorer in the league this year. The 29-year-old has played for The Gladiators since 2018 and is a product of the Blackburn Rovers academy where he made one senior appearance In the league cup, coming on as a substitute for Morten Gamst Pederson against a team he would later play for in three separate spells in Grimsby Town.
