Before Saturday’s game against Kidsgrove, Peter Temmen was presented with an award by Cheshire FA representative Alan Allcock, to commemorate surpassing 50 years of dedicated service for the Dabbers.
It was a proud moment for Peter, with his wife and family in attendance at the Swansway Stadium.
Below is a biography summing up Peter’s amazing dedication to Nantwich Town:
Peter has been a lifelong fan of the Dabbers and has served Nantwich Town FC in many capacities for well over half a century.
As a boyhood fan, Pete used to walk the Club Chairman, Eddie Lockyer, up to the old ground at Jackson Avenue. As Eddie had lost his sight, Pete used to commentate the game to Eddie so that he knew how well (or badly!) the Dabbers were playing.
Pete would start helping out at the ground and in July 1971 he was formally adopted onto the club committee. As groundsman, he tended the hallowed turf at Jackson Avenue and helped out behind the scenes in any way he could. His loyalty was rewarded when he became a Life Member of the club and a Trustee. And it was in his role as Trustee, that he was unstinting in his support for the club moving from its old historic ground to the brand new Weaver Stadium in 2007.
During his continuous service on the old club committee, he also served a stint as Vice Chairman and when the club became a Limited Company in 2010, Pete’s loyalty was recognised as he became one of the club’s Honorary Life Vice-Presidents. He was also appointed a Director of Nantwich Football Trust, the organisation that ensures that the stadium is secured for future generations.
In 2014 he again became the club’s Head Groundsman and his dedication to providing a top quality playing surface at the Weaver Stadium was rewarded when he was named as Northern Premier League Groundsman of the Year in 2015.
Pete has now retired from the role of groundsman but, of course, the club which he has followed home and away for decades remains dear to his heart.
