As Nantwich Town Women’s Football Club prepares for another season, manager Dan Mellor reflects on his two years at the helm and expresses optimism for the future.
Since taking charge in the summer of 2022, Dan has overseen a period of significant growth for the team, leading them to new heights and helping to foster a strong, competitive spirit within the squad.
Dan Mellor said:
“I’m really excited to be entering into my 3rd season with the team, we’ve worked incredibly hard over the summer on recruitment and developing a style of play that suits the players whilst maintaining being exciting to watch. I still feel incredibly proud to lead the team and am sure with the coaching staff around me we can have a successful season ahead of us.
“Pre-season has shown we’re onto something promising with some really good performances as a team but it will need a lot more work on the training ground as the season progresses but the girls are well up for the challenge.
“We’ve added some really quality players and they’ve integrated exceptionally well, we’ve been able to hold onto all of the players who we’ve wanted to hold on to and they themselves have gone up a level and it’s been really pleasing to see.
“This Sunday sees us in our 4th attempt at reaching the second round in the FA Cup, the previous years the draw hasn’t been too kind on us and we’ve drawn another tricky opponent once again. I’m confident that with the support of our home fans the girls will take what we’ve worked on these past 6-8 weeks and give it their all.”
The Dabbers women’s season opener is this Sunday 1st September (2pm kick-off) in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, first qualifying round, against Fleetwood Town Juniors at the Swansway Stadium. £5 Adults, £2 Children and the bar will be open.
They play in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Women’s & Youth Football League and are also be involved in both the FA Cup and the Cheshire FA Challenge Cup competitions.
Last season was their most successful yet, recording their first-ever Cup Final and a top 4 League finish.
