On Sunday, Nantwich Town Ladies make the trip to Clitheroe Wolves in the Vitality FA Womens Cup First Qualifying Round. We caught with newly appointed manager Dan Mellor who told us about this sides season so far and also looked ahead to this weekends big game.
“I am really excited to be taking charge of the team in the FA Cup for only the second time in the teams history. During the summer we have assembled a great backroom team for the coming season with Richard Embley as Head of Womens Football overseeing the whole female structure at the club, Neil Robbins as the Assistant Manager who continues to passionately drive the girls forwards with his positive approach to coaching, we have also recently added Ryan Jones as the First team Coach who I am sure will help develop the players as individuals as well as the team. And finally, we have also added Callum Hurst as the teams Sports Scientist who works with the girls to help to optimise their performances.
We started pre season early and have really pushed the girls to improve their fitness levels, we’ve given them a new system to learn, a new way of playing and they have really embraced this and it shows that they are really enjoying their football at the moment. The intensity and focus in training has really stepped up a level over the past few weeks and that shows with a dominant 6-1 victory in our final pre season outing Vs Macclesfield Town just a few days ago
We have added some very exciting new signings to the squad for the coming season who I am sure will help with this seasons aims and there are 2 or 3 coming back from serious injuries who are now fit to be in the squad so there’s a lot of positives to take into the new season
