Dan Mellor, Manager, Nantwich Town FC Women, speaking after the match said: “I’m absolutely gutted for the girls, I don’t think we deserve to lose the tie across 90 minutes. The effort, fight and determination to get across the line was brilliant, I couldn’t ask for any more.
“You could see at the end of the game how much they put in with all the emotion. I want to say a special thank you to the fans as well, they were brilliant all game and the fact they all stayed behind to applaud them off was just great to see and if we continue to put in performances like that this season, I’m sure they will keep coming back.
“Penalties are always a lottery and it just didn’t fall our way but look, we just played a really strong regional league team who finished high up in the league above us and we matched them, that shows how much we’ve progressed over the last 12 months and we’re only going to get better.”
