Dan Mellor, Manager, Nantwich Town Ladies FC, speaking after the match, said: “A special thank you for everyone who came and supported us. The atmosphere was brilliant and gave us that extra edge against a strong Chester side who are right up there at the top of the table.
“We’ve asked the players to show another side to their game, that fight, grit and determination to grind out results and that’s exactly what they gave us. It was difficult to get our rhythm going but we pushed and we pushed and it’s all credit to the players. It was a tight game but on the whole I thought we showed that extra quality when it mattered most in the box to beat a top quality side.
“What impressed me the most was the discipline of the players, we didn’t react when players were kicked out at, we didn’t panic when they got a goal back with 8 or 9 minutes still to play, we never looked like conceding that second goal and we managed it well.
“From the front players all the way back, they worked tirelessly and the dressing room was absolutely buzzing afterwards, so we’ve just got to take that into the final few games of the season now and build from it.”
