Nantwich fell to their third loss of the season after a 2-0 defeat away to Hyde United. A goal late in the second half by Oran Thompson following a corner, as well as a good finish by Jack Dyche midway through the second half helped the hosts claim all three points and move to the top of the table.
Hyde had the brighter start of the two teams, Dyche causing problems going forward in the opening five minutes. Nantwich started to come into the game after around ten minutes, and created some beautiful sets of play in the first half.
Matty Devine and Luke Walsh combined brilliantly down the left, leading to Nantwich’s first real chance on 12 minutes, which Sean Cooke fired straight at the keeper.
Despite more positive play, Nantwich lacked the clinical finish, and things got worse when Ben Harrison was forced off with an injury in the 27th minute.
The change seemed to unsettle the Nantwich defence, and the remainder of the first half consisted mainly of mistakes in what proved to be a scrappy game full of fouls and free-kicks.
Hyde took the lead on the stroke of half time, Thompson rising highest from the corner to give United the lead after 45 minutes.
The start of the second half brought a slow start from both teams, with the Dabbers claiming the biggest chance of the first half in the 61st minute when Walsh and Devine combined once again, but Devine tripped just as he was about to shoot from a few yards out.
Nantwich were punished for missed chances a few minutes later when Dyche fired home to make it 2-0 following a poor clearance from a corner, despite what looked like a clear foul on Greg Hall in the build up.
The rest of the second half followed on from the first, in a mainly scrappy manor. The only chance of significance for Nantwich after the second goal came to substitute Joe Mwasile who fired into the bottom corner but his effort was ruled out for offside.
The result means Nantwich sit 9th in the table on nine points, and face Scarborough Athletic at home on Saturday afternoon at the Weaver Stadium. Admission is priced at £11 for adults, £8 for concessions and £3 for U16s, who are free with a full-paying adult.
