Match Preview: Runcorn Linnets v Nantwich Town

By Liam Price

A pair of local derbies await the Dabbers in the next two games, starting on Saturday with a trip to Runcorn Linnets (3pm kick-off).

Run DMCorn

This is a game between the current 6th and 4th placed teams in the NPL West so has all the makings of a great match. Yellows are a point behind the Dabbers but have played 2 games more. They have won 5 of their last 7 games in all competitions. Notable results in that run have included a 4-1 win over Mossley and a 3-0 win at Witton in the Cheshire Senior Cup in midweek.

They have, however, lost more games at home than they’ve won. Just 2 wins from 8 home games in all competitions for a team that were exemplary at home last season in finishing 2nd in the league will be a disappointment that they’ll be looking to rectify quickly, starting on Saturday.

Last Time We Met

It was hardly a classic in March, as the two sides played out a goalless draw in Runcorn. The home side had arguably the better chances on the day but to no avail, highlights are below. The quirkiest thing in that game may well have been both sides having to wear their away kits due to clashes. This won’t be a problem on Saturday as the Dabbers will get to wear their dark blue away strip for the first time.

Players to Watch

Runcorn Linnets’ top scorer is Taylor Bowen on 5 goals. But it was Adam Moseley who was prominent in midweek, scoring twice against Witton to take his season total up to 4.

Former Dabber Will Saxon also has a couple of goals to his name so far.
