Nantwich Town are in action against Witton on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm kick-off) in the first local derby of the season.
Albion and on
Witton have made a good if slightly inconsistent start to their season. 2 wins in the FA Cup, where they’ll travel to Avro in the next round, have been supplemented with 2 wins in the league, including last time out at home to Kidsgrove.
But there’s also been some bruising defeats at home, losing 3-2 to Stalybridge and 4-2 to Bootle. To score twice at home in both but not take a single point from them would have frustrated Ben Harrison and his staff.
It’s a good position to be in though, as even with those defeats they sit in the play-off places; having finished just below 7th last season it’ll surely be on their mind to go one better by April.
They had an even longer trip than the Dabbers on Saturday in the FA Trophy, heading up to the north east to play Morpeth Town, where they lost 2-0.
Last Time We Met
The meetings with Witton last season were an unmitigated disaster for the Dabbers; a 4-1 thrashing away on Boxing Day then a 4-0 win for Witton at the Swansway in April.
Players to Watch
There’s the usual smattering of ex-Dabbers for Witton in at least Cameron Terry, Jacob Hamman and James Lawrie.
Freddy Garbutt has caught the eye and has a few goals to his name already, a real danger man up front who seems to be able to score any kind of goal.
Joe Edwards, Tom Hoyle and James Steele are others who’ve got multiple goals for Witton so far. And Geffrey Ebhote was superb for Avro in their promotion season and will have strengthened Witton’s defence since joining in the summer.
