It’s back to the league after 15 days for the Dabbers on Tuesday evening as we host Widnes in a rearranged league game (7.45pm kick-off).
Widnes for the Prosecution
After finishing on the same points and the exact same record as the Dabbers in the league last season (Widnes finishing ahead in 9th on goal difference), Widnes have started this season pretty strongly as well. They lie in 8th with a game or two in hand on most of the teams above them. This is because of their cup run in the FA Cup, which came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to Stockton Town at the end of August.
They also lost 3-0 in the FA Trophy to Stocksbridge Park Steels last weekend which made it 3 defeats in 4. But the early league form has been better with just one loss to current league leaders Trafford. They have notably also kept 4 clean sheets in their 8 games in all competitions so far.
Last Time We Met
We travelled to the DCBL Stadium on the final day of last season, and the Dabbers finished on a high with a 2-1 win, courtesy of goals from Byron Harrison and Callum Saunders, albeit with nothing riding on the game for either side other than pride. Highlights below.
Players to Watch
Sharif Deans and James Steele are the two that have scored multiple goals in the early season, Deans with 3 in 8 games and Steele with 2 in 7. And they have a new goalkeeper in Mark Halstead that has plenty of EFL experience at places like Shrewsbury and Morecambe.
