It’s derby day in South Cheshire on Tuesday night (7:45 kick-off), as Warrington are in town to face the Dabbers at the Optimum Pay Stadium. Let’s look ahead at what this fixture could bring.
When two tribes go to Warr
Warrington sit in 5th in the league as things stand, the sort of position most would have expected them to be in when the season ends. They’ve taken 10 points from their last 6 games, 2 better than the Dabbers, and come into the game off back to back wins over Ashton and Stalybridge. Before those, they were knocked back by consecutive 3-2 losses to South Shields and Basford, so they can’t afford to lose any more ground to the teams around them.
Last Time Out
We last met in the short-lived 20/21 season, drawing 2-2 in a thriller at Cantilever Park. Joe Mwasile’s opener was cancelled out by Jack Dunn, then a flurry of late action saw Connor Heath score a stunning individual goal 5 minutes from time, only to be pegged back again on the cusp of stoppage time by Josh Amis who benefitted from a Greg Hall handling error. There are no highlights from that game but you can read the match report here.
Players to Watch
Jordan Buckley is the joint second highest scorer in the league with 8 goals, and has scored in Warrington’s last 4 matches. He will surely relish the chance of keeping that run going against his side’s local rivals, so it’ll be all hands on deck for the Dabbers to keep our run of clean sheets intact.
