The Dabbers look to end March with a win at home as we welcome Sporting Khalsa on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
A Question of Sporting
Things are getting serious for Sporting Khalsa now, as other results in midweek have put them in the relegation zone on goal difference behind Congleton. The Bears also have a game in hand on Khalsa. It looks like it’s going to be 2 from 5 that will join Wythenshawe Town and Darlaston in going down from the NPL West and Sporting Khalsa are well in that fight alongside Congleton, a resurgent Trafford, Stafford and Newcastle.
Khalsa are winless in 5 but they have had some mighty tough opponents in that run, including Bury, Avro, Lower Breck and Vauxhall, who they lost 4-1 to last weekend. An away trip to Darlaston on Easter Monday looks like being the most defining game of their remaining fixtures. In midweek they were defeated on penalties in the semi-final of the Walsall Senior Cup against Stafford after a 1-1 draw.
Only Trafford and Wythenshawe Town have lost more games away from home than Khalsa, and only Wythenshawe have conceded more goals, but they have scored the most goals of any team in the current bottom 7.
Last Time We Met
All the way back in August we suffered our first defeat of the season away at Khalsa, losing 1-0, meaning we’ve still never beaten them but Saturday will be the first time we’ve played them at the Swansway. Highlights below.
Players to Watch
A remarkable 30 out of Khalsa’s 49 league goals this season (or 61%) have been scored by 2 players, Chay Tilt and Andre Landell. Tilt has 17 and Landell 13. Landell scored the winner in the reverse game in August and both he and Tilt have been on the scoresheet this month, albeit in defeats.
There was a mad story featuring one of Khalsa’s young goalkeepers, Jack Blood, who was signed last week by Danish heavyweights Midtjylland despite having never made a senior league appearance for Khalsa. What an opportunity for the young man to join a club who were most recently seen taking on Nottingham Forest in the knockout stages of the Europa League.
