The Dabbers return to the Cheshire Senior Cup in the rearranged First Round tie with Runcorn Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
Runcorn to the Hills
Runcorn Town play in the North West Counties Division One North, the 10th tier of the football pyramid, 2 below the Dabbers. They are 11th out of 18 teams in that league, meaning it’s a 38-place gap between the sides going into Tuesday.
Runcorn haven’t won in their last 4 games in all competitions. They have lost to Darwen and drawn to Garstang (their last match) in the league, lost to Abbey Hey in the FA Vase, and in what might be the most representative for the Dabbers, were beaten 7-0 by fellow NPL West side Runcorn Linnets in the Liverpool Senior Cup.
Before that, they had won 3 in a row, and have only played once this month due to postponements.
Players to Watch
The top scorer for Runcorn is Joel Ankers, who like Byron Harrison got up to double figures with a goal at the weekend. He’s even scored 4 in one game, against Route One Rovers last month.
But the most recognisable name in their squad is surely that of Kevin Ellison. 44 years young and playing since 1996, he’s still going strong and was given man of the match by the opposition in their game on Saturday. A legend for Morecambe and a favourite at many other clubs such as Chester, where he played alongside our manager Paul Carden for one season. He has also been praised for speaking openly about his struggles with mental health.
