The Dabbers are at home again on Tuesday night, this time in the 2nd Round of the Cheshire Senior Cup (after we got a bye in the First Round) against Hyde United (7.45pm kick-off).
The headline from this game is there are reduced ticket prices of just £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for under 16s. Get your tickets HERE or on the gate with cash/card.
You Can Run But You Can’t Hyde
Hyde are going well in the NPL Premier (the league above the Dabbers), currently sitting 6th, 2 points and a place off the play-offs. They are winless in their last 3 games, however, losing to Ilkeston Town and drawing with both Lancaster City and Ashton United (their last game).
Their home and away records in the league are identical: 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats for each. The notable thing about their position in the table is they’ve done it despite conceding the third most goals of any NPL Premier team, they appear to be winning by outscoring opponents rather than grinding out results. They only have 2 clean sheets as well.
The Tigers are the current holders of the Cheshire Senior Cup, won by beating Crewe Alex on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the final last season which happened to be at their home ground Ewen Fields (chosen before the finalists were known). It was the 7th time in their history they’d lifted the trophy, first winning it back in 1946.
Last Time We Met
Our last game against Hyde, in March 2023, was also Paul Carden’s very first game in charge of the Dabbers. It went the way of the Tigers that day, an excellent Edy Maieco free kick sealing a 1-0 win after Dan Cockerline had a penalty saved. Highlights below.
Players to Watch
With the usual caveats around cup games and rotation meaning we may not see these players, the top scorer currently for Hyde is Jack Redshaw who has racked up 11 goals in 21 appearances so far. Second on the list is a very familiar face in Connor Heath who has 5 goals to his name. Ewan Bange is a recent addition to Hyde’s frontline on loan from Radcliffe.
