It’s a third meeting of the season already for the Dabbers against Grantham Town this Saturday (3pm kick-off), this time as we look to progress past the First Round of the Buildbase FA Trophy. Let’s look ahead at what this chapter could bring.
Grantham seek a new Lord
The big news from our opponents this week was the departure of both Carlton Palmer as manager and the club chairman too. This comes as Grantham remain stuck to the bottom of the PitchingIn Northern Premier Division but is because of an impending takeover of the club not because of results or form.
They have picked up some decent results since we last met in September, like the Dabbers they won away at FC United and put 4 past Witton just last month. They reached this stage of the FA Trophy by beating Mickleover 1-0. But a couple of punishing defeats, 5-0 to Stalybridge standing out, means they remain bottom and are managerless for the time being.
Last Time Out
Usually these previews are remembering matches from long ago in the pre-pandemic times, but in this case a bizarre quirk of cup draws and fixtures means we face each other for the third time in just over 2 months, and in a third different competition.
Away at Grantham in September, Dan Cockerline scored the only goal in an important 1-0 win in the driving rain at the Kesteven. Highlights from that one can be viewed below:
Player to watch
Harvey Grice stood out in our last meeting as a real danger from midfield, most of their best attacking moves seem to come through him so the Dabbers will have to be on high alert whenever he gets on the ball.
