It’s back to the FA Trophy for the Dabbers on Saturday as we host Dunston, who are making a 388-mile round trip to the Swansway Stadium for this Second Qualifying Round tie.
What Have I Dunston Deserve This?
Dunston, based in Gateshead and a 10-minute drive from St James’ Park in the North East, are in the NPL East, the same division as Liversedge, our opponents in the previous round.
But they are higher in that league, sitting 7th on 10 points, a place below their finishing position last season. They have defeated the current league leaders Belper in recent weeks.
However, in all competitions they are on a run of 3 defeats in 4 games. They were knocked out of the FA Cup by Ashton United and defeated Ashington in the previous round of the Trophy before losing to the very same opponent in their next league game 3-1 last weekend.
They have good pedigree in the FA Trophy; last season they knocked out Bamber Bridge on the way to the Third Qualifying Round for the third year in a row.
And like the Dabbers, their greatest day came when they won the FA Vase, doing so in 2012 at Wembley.
Players to Watch
Sado Djalo and Jordan Lamb both have 2 goals in their last 2 games. Their top scorer and player of the month for August is Dale Pearson but he is out injured; others are stepping up in his absence. They also have 4 different players called Jack, time will tell if they are Jacks of all trades.
