It’s another huge game for the Dabbers this Saturday (3pm kick-off) as Ashton United visit the Optimum Pay Stadium. A clash of 20th versus 19th, we look ahead to what will decide this match.

Ashton-above-Line

Ashton United are just outside the relegation zone, in 19th having played 23 games, 2 fewer than the Dabbers and they have four points more. They won their last game last weekend, 1-0 over Lancaster City. This was only their second win from their last six league games, the other being a comfortable 3-0 victory over our most recent opponents Mickleover, losses to Buxton, FC United and Morpeth have also been suffered recently.

They’ve recently looked to strengthen their defence with a pair of loans from Salford City. James Melhado and Matt Sargent came straight into their starting line-up as they kept that clean sheet against Lancaster so will provide a tougher test for the Dabbers to break through.

Last Time Out

In October, the reverse fixture couldn’t have started better for the Dabbers, with Connor Heath heading into the lead after 5 minutes. But a penalty in each half, from Tom Bentham and Cassian Anghel, meant Ashton took a 2-1 victory. Highlights from that one (courtesy of Ashton’s YouTube) are available below:

A Dabbers legend remembered

Match ball sponsorship for this game is with the family of the late Phil Johnson, the much-loved and missed Press Officer for Nantwich Town for many years. Six members of Phil’s family will be presenting the match ball and watching the match, so we’d ask supporters to be in the ground when this presentation happens.

Tickets for the game can be bought here, and we are running the offer of under 16s going free with a paying adult, so come along and give the team your support for this massive game.
