It’s a long trip in store for the Dabbers on Saturday (3pm kick-off) as we head to the north east to face Morpeth Town. We look ahead to this tricky fixture.
Please Sir, can I have some Morpeth?
Tricky is one way of putting it. Morpeth’s win over Nantwich at the Optimum Pay Stadium in October was the first of a remarkable unbeaten run that is still going now, that’s 18 games in all competitions. They have not lost at home in the league since September.
Despite this, they are 10th in the league and 8 points outside the play-offs, albeit with games in hand. They are still paying the price for a sluggish start to the season where they lost 7 of their first 10 league games.
They’re also the sole PitchingIn Northern Premier team through to the last 16 of the FA Trophy, where they will face York City who knocked them out of the FA Cup.
Last Time Out
The game at the Optimum Pay Stadium was decided by a remarkable individual performance by Liam Noble. Before that, a Dan Cockerline penalty and a tidy finish from Connor Heath put the Dabbers 2-0 up at the break. But a brilliant free kick and not 1 but 2 goals directly from corners from Noble snatched the three points for Morpeth, and they’ve barely looked back since. Highlights from that one are available below.
Players to Watch
Andrew Johnson is into double figures for the league season after scoring recently against Stalybridge, plus there’s a pair of Liam’s, we already know about set piece specialist Noble, but dangerous striker Henderson makes this the biggest threat from a Liam since Neeson had that phone call in ‘Taken’.
