Nantwich will be hoping to bounce back with a win a frustrating loss earlier in the week to league leaders, South Shields. Tomorrow they face relegation threated Matlock Town at Causeway Lane in Derbyshire, in a bid to gain a valuable three points on the road.
Tomorrow’s hosts have struggled for form as of late, with their last win in the league coming on the 4th of February; a comfortable 4-0 victory against Radcliffe FC. The Gladiators last home game saw them pick up a point in a 1-1 draw against Morpeth Town. Matlock’s previous game was an unfortunate 3-2 loss to play-off contenders, Warrington Town.

The last time the Dabbers faced Matlock came on the 1st October, with Nantwich coming out as 3-1 victors. The result was the Gladiators first loss away from home and just their second loss of the season at that time. The visitors took the lead for Jordan Sinnott just before the end of the first half, after he beat Greg Hall to the ball and headed past him into the net. It didn’t take Nantwich pull one back however, a fine bit of work from David Webb down the right and a low cross across goal resulted in Joe Malkin equalising just six minutes into the second half. Malkin then got his second of the game with eighteen minutes to play, after he knocked in a rebound from Sean Cooke’s effort. The Dabbers then settled their victory with seconds to play, as Webb broke away from a Matlock side pressing for a late equaliser. The midfielder then laid of captain Caspar Hughes was slotted the ball home and gave Nantwich a hard fought victory.
Player to Watch:
30 year-old defender Adam Yates has been with the Gladiators since March 2009 after impressing against them in the Derbyshire Senior Cup as a 19 year-old. The defender is able to play both centre-back and right-back. Yates is closing on reaching 500 appearances for Matlock and is a fan favourite, and also club captain with the Gladiators. He has previously played at Chesterfield at youth level, before starting his senior career in 2007/08 with Belper Town, shortly after for Shirebrook Town, before moving to Matlock Town. Yates has won the fans player of season on four different occasions, in 2012/13, 2015/16, 2017/18 and also 2018/19.
