Paul Carden is preparing to lead the Dabbers in his first away game as manager this Saturday, as we head to play-off chasers Gainsborough Trinity on the back of that big win over Lancaster.
The Name Of The Gain
When the Dabbers faced Gainsborough in November, they were second, and while there hasn’t been a massive loss of form since then, they currently find themselves 6th, outside the play offs by just a point and only 5 points behind Radcliffe in second; it’s another tight finish incoming for those 4 play-off spots.
Gainsborough are actually unbeaten in their last 7, winning their last 3 with clean sheets in their last 2. They are joint top scorers in the league along with South Shields and have the second best goal difference.
But if you look at their home form over the season, they are a surprising 15th in the table, it’s their sparkling away results that have got them in promotion contention.
Last Time Out
That November game didn’t have much going for it until the 88th minute, when a Clayton Donaldson penalty looked to have won it for Trinity. But a stoppage time equaliser from Harry Nevin secured a 1-1 draw and a point that was deserved from the Dabbers’ performance that night. Highlights below.
Players to Watch
It’s easy to go for the big names, but Donaldson’s record this season is impossible to ignore. 22 goals in 39 games in all competitions are the impressive numbers, and with Regan Linney now at Altrincham, that Golden Boot is looking more than possible for the former Crewe man.
Not far behind him is Liam Waldock on 18 in 37, scorer in their recent win over Guiseley. Harry Lewis also has 3 in his last 3. In summary, they score a lot of goals.
