Match Preview: Avro FC v Nantwich Town

The Dabbers get their first game in a new league underway this Saturday (3pm kick-off) as we head to Oldham to face Avro FC.

Avro Ever Seen the Rain

It’s a historic day for Avro, as Saturday marks their first ever game in the 8th tier of English football, the highest level they’ve played at since their formation in 1936. Named after the aircraft manufacturer that produced the iconic Lancaster bomber and managed by former Dabbers captain Alex Frost, Avro gained their second promotion in 5 years after finishing 2nd in the North West Counties Premier and beating Lincoln United 2-1 in the play-offs. They kept a league high 20 clean sheets so should provide a stern test for the Dabbers’ frontline. They have already played this season, winning 2-0 against Emley in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round last week.

They have played at the Whitebank Stadium, currently known as The Vestacare Stadium, since 2017, and their record attendance of 688 could be challenged on this huge day in the club’s history.

Scran-tastic

Avro have gained online fame in recent years for their food produced at the ground. Any Dabbers fans wanting to see what the fuss is about should head to Macie’s @ Avro and be aware that it is cash only.

Players to Watch

Liam Ellis scored 12 times for Avro up front last season and was on the scoresheet again in that FA Cup win last time out.

In midfield, Jack Morrow only scored 1 goal in 44 appearances last season, but it just happened to be the winning goal in that play-off triumph, so he seems to be up for the big occasion, which Saturday will be again.

Match Information

As well as the food, tickets are also cash only at the ground. They are priced at £10 for adults, £8 for concessions, £6 for U21s, £3 for U16s, and under 8s go free with a paying adult.

The Vestacare Stadium is an hour’s drive from Nantwich via the M6, M56, M60 and A62, postcode OL8 3JH.
