Fans of Nantwich Town and Crewe Alexandra were treated to more than just cup drama when live music brought an electric pre-match buzz to the recent Cheshire Senior Cup clash at the Swansway Stadium on Waterlode in Nantwich.
Nantwich musician Steve Robinson took to the stage in the Green Rock Group Fan Zone, next to the Swansway Stand, delivering a high-energy set packed with crowd-pleasing favourites. Backed by friend Neil Smith on cajón, the duo had supporters from both sides soaking up the feel-good atmosphere ahead of kick-off.
Steve and Neil are also members of local rock/pop trio FootSteps, and their chemistry shone through as they warmed up the crowd for the big match.
The ever-popular Fan Zone – complete with a fully stocked bar and club merchandise shop – proved the perfect meeting point for fans, with anticipation building as music echoed around the ground.
Steve, who grew up watching local bands in Nantwich with his dad before forming his own group, said performing at the stadium combined two lifelong passions.
“It was brilliant to play at the Swansway Stadium and see fans from both clubs enjoying the music together before such a big game,” he said. “There’s something special about live music and football coming together – it really gets everyone in the mood for the match.”
Green Rock Manufacturing Group are the principal sponsor of the NITSA (Nantwich Town Independent Supporters Association) Fan Zone. The company, a leader in eco-friendly paper cup production, has supplied compostable and recyclable cups branded with the Nantwich Town FC crest for use in the Fan Zone and by catering partner The Tea Lounge; along with serving sports clubs and major events across the UK.
The NTISA were formed in 2012 and is made up of passionate Nantwich Town supporters who follow the team home and away. Alongside backing the players, the group organises popular fundraising events including race nights and quiz evenings, generating vital additional income for the club. Over the years, their efforts have helped fund significant improvements at the Swansway Stadium — from installing a tannoy system to creating a ramp and shelter for disabled supporters, and establishing the thriving Fan Zone itself.
