League 2, The Cheshire Football League : Saturday 12th September 2020

A stirring second half fightback saw the newly-formed Dabbers reserve side grab a point in their opening Cheshire League fixture against Hartford.

Lyndon Wain’s side had started brightly at the Cheshire FA Football Centre when Jake Hopkins fired the Dabbers ahead on 8 minutes with a low drive from the edge of the box.

The hosts struck back, though, with Richard Bettley drilling into the net after hesitancy in the Dabbers defence.  Hartford then took full advantage of the wind behind them,a Tom Cox pouncing on a loose ball and then another long distance Bettley thunderbolt putting them 3-1 up at the break.

But Nantwich stuck to their task and their technical prowess showed through in the second half.  Substitute Ben Potter headed home a free kick on the hour mark and the impressive Oliver Pope completed the comeback two minutes from time.

It was a deserved point for the young Nantwich side who showed determination to battle to the end and a solid start to their Cheshire League campaign.  This Saturday, the reserves are at home to Sandbach United Reserves (KO:2pm) before travelling to early pacesetters Whalley Range the following Saturday (26th).
