Dabbers held period of remembrance prior to yesterday’s fixture

A Remembrance ceremony, organised by the Nantwich & District Branch of the Royal British Legion, took place on the pitch prior to the Nantwich Town vs Morpeth Town match on Saturday 12th November 2022 at the Swansway Stadium in the Pitching In Northern Premier League – Premier Division, https://www.thenpl.co.uk/ .

During the pre-match ceremony a poppy wreath from Nantwich Town Football Club was temporarily put in the centre of the pitch. The wreath will be placed at the Nantwich war memorial on the town square on Remembrance Sunday. ‘The Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’ were performed, in between which there was a respectful one-minute silence. The ceremony commemorated the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

Members of Nantwich & District Branch of the Royal British Legion were present at the ceremony including Garry Timmins (Parade Marshall) and Geoff Davies-Palin (RBL Standard Bearer), plus Corporal James Bradley (RAF Cadet Standard Bearer) and bugler Graham Malam.

RAF Air Cadets assisted with a bucket collection for the Royal British Legion.

All Nantwich Town players match shirts featured a Poppy, setup by Dabbers Kit Manager Jason Clarke.

Bertie Blackhurst, RAF Acting pilot officer, said: “It was great to be here to support the town in a community sport event and to raise money for the Royal British Legion at this time of remembrance.“

David Hulse, Nantwich & District Branch of the Royal British Legion and a steward at Nantwich Town FC, said: “We were delighted to witness a very appropriate act of remembrance. Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the Royal British Legion collection and to Nantwich Town Football Club for their continued support.”
