Cheshire Cup Quarter Final Preview: Nantwich v Crewe Alex

It’s Cheshire Senior Cup Quarter Final time for the Dabbers, as Crewe Alex prepare to make the short trip to the Swansway Stadium on Wednesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

Motley Crewe

Crewe reached this stage by beating Witton Albion in the last round on 10th January, with a 2-1 win at Gresty Road thanks to goals by Zak Kempster-Down and Marquise Martins. A lot of the younger players from that night will likely be involved again on Wednesday as their rearranged League 2 game against Stockport falls just 24 hours earlier.

Last Time Out

Our annual pre-season meeting was our last match against the Alex, who came out on top 3-0 in the Barry Daly Memorial Trophy in July. But for our last meeting in the Cheshire Cup, you have to go back to January 2019 and a famous win at Gresty Road for the Dabbers, by 2 goals to 1. Highlights from that night below.

Players to Watch

It could be a night to see the highly rated Matúš Holíček in action. The attacking midfielder signed his first pro contract with Crewe on his 18th birthday just last week that could see him at the Alex until 2027. He’s already represented his nation, Slovakia, at under 15, 17 and 18 level.

Another possible danger is striker Connor Evans, who has already played against the Dabbers this season during a loan spell at Marine.
