It’s a weekend trip to Merseyside for the Dabbers as we travel to face Marine. With Nantwich fighting for survival and Marine fighting to get in the play-offs, there’s plenty riding on this one.
Rage Against the Marine
Marine secured their place in the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup in midweek with a convincing 4-1 home win over Southport in front of a crowd of over 1,600, the same scoreline they beat a youthful Everton side by earlier in the competition. In the league, their last 6 games have alternated between loss and win, culminating in a 1-0 defeat away to Gainsborough but then a 3-0 win over Whitby last weekend.
Some cheap defeats in there to Liversedge and Guiseley mean they have slipped outside the play-offs to 7th, 3 points behind Gainsborough in the last spot with a game in hand. They have conceded the second fewest goals in the league and hold the 4th best home record, which shows the scale of the task at hand for the Dabbers.
Last Time Out
Marine came from behind to win 2-1 at the Swansway Stadium in October. Harry Nevin put the Dabbers ahead on his debut, but a Hayden Campbell double either side of half time won it for the visitors. Highlights below.
Sean Cooke had left for Rylands by that match, with him now back he can hopefully continue his run of scoring in his last 3 games for the Dabbers against Marine going back to 2018.
Players to Watch
Campbell has since moved to Curzon Ashton and gone from strength to strength in National League North. In his absence, Sol Solomon has stepped up to become their top scorer with 16 in all competitions, a perfect 1 in 2 games ratio. He scored 2 in a recent 3-0 win over FC United. Louis Britton has 6 goals in 6 games for them, including a hat trick in that midweek Southport win. And Jordan Lussey has scored from the penalty spot in his last 2 matches.

While there is no coach going, planned industrial action on the trains is now not happening so there are multiple trains heading from Crewe to Liverpool Lime Street, it’s then a short walk to Liverpool Central and another small train journey to Blundellsands & Crosby a 10 minute walk from the Marine Travel Arena. An open return journey costs less than £14.
