The Cheshire Cup Quarter Finals are here, and for the Dabbers it’s a big test against the best team currently in non-league, Stockport County, on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off) at the Optimum Pay Stadium. We preview where this tie could be decided.
What more is there to say of the Hatters than them sitting at the top of the National League. They are a point clear of Chesterfield but have played a game more. And they’ve now won 9 on the bounce after thrashing Barnet 5-0 last Saturday.
It’s been 11 long years outside the Football League for this proud club, with some extremely dark times for their supporters in there. But since Dave Challinor joined the club as manager from Hartlepool they have looked transformed and can dare to dream of returning to where they feel they belong.
Last Time Out
After we defeated Stockport in the 2018 final in this competition, the two sides met again in March 2019, this time in the semi-final at the Optimum Pay Stadium, and we were victorious again by 3-0. Jamie Morgan gave the Dabbers the lead on the stroke of half-time after a brilliant Sean Cooke effort was saved, then Joel Stair poked in from a corner just the other side of the break. Callum Saunders finished a late breakaway to seal the win as we headed for back-to-back Cheshire Cups. Highlights of that one are available below:
