Match Preview: Nantwich Town v Atherton Collieries

A brilliant five home wins in a row have propelled the Dabbers to the cusp of guaranteed safety in the league, and on Saturday Atherton Collieries are the latest team to try and put an end to this record (3pm kick-off).

Pull the Ather-ton

Atherton are without a win in 7 games in all competitions, back to a win over Matlock in mid-March. There have been narrow losses in there to Stalybridge and Gainsborough, as well as draws with Witton and Ashton last time out.

This run has seen them fall just a place behind the resurgent Dabbers, they have the same number of points but a superior goal difference of 1 has Nantwich sitting 14th and Atherton 15th. In fact, Hyde also have exactly the same record as the other two, and only a further goal difference back.

Last Time Out

Only the second game of the season, and our first away trip, saw the Dabbers claim a 2-0 victory to make it back to back wins to start 21/22. A Sean Cooke special free kick was the pick of the action, highlights of the game can be viewed below.

Players to Watch

Goalscoring defenders are always worth highlighting, and Atherton’s Gaz Peet has scored 5 in all competitions this season including an 86th minute equaliser away at Ashton last weekend. He usually wears the number 3, so keep an eye out when Atherton have any set pieces.
