By Steve Sharman:
Defender Joel Stair believes the team can continue their recent form and end the season on a positive note as the Dabbers enter the final couple months of the 2017/18 campaign.
Stair has been a central figure to the Dabbers side this season playing in 28 of the 31 league games, and says the team can finish high up the table if they are to keep up with their good form.
He said: “We aim to finish as high as we can. We’re in relatively good form but play some top teams in those games. If we get some positive results against those teams we will be in a good position at the end of the season.
“Having had so many changes at the start of the season it is always difficult, but everyone has settled quite quickly. We all get on well and there’s a good team spirit amongst the lads.”
The centre-back joined the club during last season and made a number of appearances at the back scoring two goals, and since the summer has been one of the first names on the team sheet each week – something he is extremely grateful to the manager for.
“It’s been very good playing under Dave, he’s given me the chance to play week in week out which is always a positive. He’s played me at what I feel is my strongest position which gets the best out of me.”
In recent weeks, the former Hanley Town man has been partnered with youngster Troy Bourne at the back and Stair has been extremely impressed with the full back’s performances.
“Troy has been outstanding for us and has been arguably one of our most consistent/top performers. I have no doubt of him playing at a much higher standard.”
The Dabbers are next in action on Tuesday evening at the Weaver Stadium as they host Matlock Town with a 7.45pm KO.
