A five-a-side charity football tournament held at the Weaver Stadium on Sunday raised much needed funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, as a large crowd enjoyed a feast of football.
The tournament, which featured twelve teams from throughout the region, was played on the 3G during the day and was organised by Dabbers Youth Development Officer Lyndon Wain.
Assistant boss Danny Griggs featured in one of the teams, with the former midfielder turning back the clock with some eye-catching goals.
Speaking after the event Wain said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from everyone at the football club in enabling us to stage the event.
“More importantly the enthusiasm and commitment we have received from all the teams, who have all donated to such a worthy cause, has just added to it all and made the day extra special, along with a fantastic atmosphere created by the watching supporters and families.”
The final saw Shadwell take the inaugural trophy with a 3-0 victory over Travis Perkins Stoke.
