MATCH PREVIEW: Stockport County

By Steve Sharman:

Following last Tuesday’s defeat to Buxton, the Dabbers turn their attention to the Senior Cup as they host National League North side Stockport County in the semi-finals. Dave Cooke’s side are looking to make it to a third successive final and defend the trophy having claimed their fifth Senior Cup last year. Meanwhile Stockport have been in fine form of late but had a 16 game unbeaten run ended at the weekend as they were beaten 1-0 away at Brackley Town. The Hatters sit second in the National League North just a point behind leaders Chorley.

Head-To-Head:

The last meeting between the two sides was in 2015 and was a memorable one for the Dabbers as they claimed an impressive 2-0 win at Edgeley Park in the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy. It took until the final ten minutes of the game for the Dabbers to net both their goals, as an Andy White effort and a Liam Shotton penalty saw Nantwich progress. That season Phil Parkinson’s men made it to the semi-finals of the competition, eventually losing to Halifax Town. Previous to that, the last meeting came in 2006/07 as the Hatters won 4-2 at Jackson Avenue in the First Round of the Senior Cup.

Dabbers Connection – Elliot Osborne (Midfielder):

Osborne arrived at County on loan in September last year from Southport, before joining permanently in November. The 22-year old joined the Dabbers in February 2015 having impressed for Division One South side Newcastle Town. Elliot went on to score 13 times in the 2015/16 season and his impressive performances earned him a move to League One side Fleetwood Town. His time there included many loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Morecambe and Stockport. He made his debut for Fleetwood as a substitute in a 0-0 draw with Dagenham and Redbridge.
