Striker Callum Saunders says he hopes he can carry on his goal scoring form into the final stretch of the season as the Dabbers look to confirm a place in the league’s play-off’s over the next couple of weeks.
Saunders has scored three goals in his last two appearances and the former Crewe man hopes he can continue finding the net.
He said: “I’m very happy to have had two good games off the back of not playing too much. I was knocking on the manager’s door asking to play so I needed to perform.
“I think I have [performed] over the last two games although I should have had more than three goals! Hopefully I can carry my form into the last part of the season.
“I’ve learnt a lot this year and I think I have improved as the season has gone along. I was hoping for a few goals but there is still games to add to that tally.”
Two of the goals came in the recent defeat to Mickleover Sports, a result Callum feels the team should put behind them and to focus on Saturday’s game at Lancaster.
“It was very disappointing but it shows no game is a given in this league. I think it gave us a reality check as to the form we are in and hopefully we can put it right against Lancaster and hit a good run of form for the run in.
“The lads just want to secure a play-off spot as we can then concentrate on them. We know we are more than good enough to go up this year.”
His first goal against Mickleover saw a golfing celebration and one he was able to have a joke with his team mates about.
“It was just a bit of banter as the lads have organised an end of season day and night out in Liverpool. Unfortunately I’m away on a golfing holiday then so they have been giving me a bit of stick about it!”« Back to all news
