By Steve Sharman:
New striker Danny Glover believes the club have what it takes to be competing at the top-end of the league table, after the former Port Vale man signed for the Dabbers in June from fellow Premier Division side Hednesford Town.
Glover spent three years with the Pitmen, but felt the chance to join the Dabbers was one he couldn’t ignore.
He said: “I feel the gaffer, his staff and club have the same ambitions as myself as I want us to be competing at the top end of the table. It’s also been a fair amount of time since I’ve won something and want to experience that again. I had three good years at Hednesford and it’s a great club but I just felt the time was right to move on.
“Everyone at the club has made me feel very welcome and I’m enjoying getting to know everybody too. There are a number of good, young and experienced players in this squad and they like to play football which will also help my own game.”
The 28-year old has been a regular feature in the Dabbers pre-season schedule and netted his first goals for the club in the 4-0 win over Radcliffe at the weekend, something he was pleased to do.
“Pre-season has been a bit hit and miss on a personal level for me. I’ve felt I’ve performed pretty well at times, but been missing too many chances.
“However I’m experienced enough to know that I’ve got to play through these dry spells as every forward in the world has them and just try to take the next chance that comes along.
“Luckily for me I managed to stick a few in on Saturday (against Radcliffe), I think the gaffer was beginning to worry about what he had signed me for! I just can’t wait for the season to kick off properly now.”
As well as Glover, midfielder James Lawrie also joined from Hednesford, and Danny believes the pair will continue their great relationship on the pitch for their new club.
“I’ve known Jimmy for at least 13/14 years now and we started our football days off together at Port Vale. Back then he used to play up front with me, but over the years he’s been dropping further and further back in positions due to his pace deteriorating!”
“We get on very well both on and off the pitch and I think this helps our understanding during matches. For me James is one of the best players in our league so it’s great news that he’s signed I just hope he gets me 30 assists this year instead of 29!”« Back to all news
