FA CUP: Mullarkey hopeful of birthday cup win

By Steve Sharman:

Centre-back Toby Mullarkey is hoping he can cap his birthday off with an FA Cup win at Stevenage this weekend.

Mullarkey, who joined the Dabbers in the summer, turns 21 on Saturday and the former Crewe Alex man says the weekend would be great with a win.

He said: “It would definitely be a nice way to celebrate my 21st by going out and winning! The whole weekend will be a great experience, from travelling down on the Friday to playing on the Saturday, I can’t wait.

“Everyone’s buzzing for the game, it’s all that’s been talked about in the dressing room. We know that it’s the cup and anything can happen, hopefully we can go and cause an upset.

“It’s a huge achievement to be playing in the First Round proper, and definitely a game I’ll remember in my career! As a squad and individually it’s a massive achievement.”

The defender spent last season at Leek Town and has been an ever present in the Dabbers’ defence alongside Joel Stair this year, and someone Toby has learnt a great deal from.

“It’s great to play alongside Joel, I get on well with him on and off the pitch, he is a leader and a good player, so I’ve already learnt a lot from him which helps me.

“The gaffer has been great with me, he’s got me back enjoying my football, and it’s a great set of lads to be around.”
