Youth Team in Last Gasp Victory
North West Alliance Youth Open Cup
Runcorn Linnets 2 -3 Nantwich Town
The Youth Team had a great result today in the North West Youth Alliance Open Cup. They were away to Runcorn Linnets FC ( who they also play on Thursday at the Weaver Stadium in the FA Youth Cup ) and won 3-2 with a last minute winner scored by Tom Wilson.
The team played well in the first half, but were 2-1 down at half time. Joe Radcliffe, scoring the Nantwich goal to keep the boys in touch with a strong and organised Runcorn side. In the second half Nantwich pushed Cal Southern into a more forward position and the equaliser was scored by striker Callum Rollings. With the momentum now with Nantwich, the players, watched by Jimmy Quinn and Director of Football Clive Jackson, pushed on for the winner and in the 90th minute Tom Wilson ran into the box to score at the near post following great work by Joe Radcliffe.
Youth Team manager Steve Smithies said “This was a great performance and just reward for the hard work that the lads have put in, it’s also a great confidence booster ahead of our FA Youth Cup game at the Weaver Stadium on Thursday, though Runcorn are a very good side and we are going to have to be at our best again to get the result that we need, but hopefully we will have a good home crowd behind us which will help immensely and we are now really looking forward to the game”.
The Nantwich Town Youth Team meet Runcorn Linnets in the FA Youth Cup at 7 pm on Thursday 6th September at the Weaver Stadium.
Admission is £3 Adults, £2 concessions and £1 for kids
